Dear Reader,

The Catalyst Perspective

A few weeks ago, I joined award-winning journalist Robin Hamilton on her upcoming podcast, Democracy Does: The Civic Power Playbook. I was honored to be featured as her first guest and look forward to following her work once she launches during August. As we wrapped up, she asked:

“What can people do right now, when everything feels out of control?”

She could’ve meant the violence against rights, the unraveling of the social safety net, the lawlessness at the top. But I didn’t point to Congress. I didn’t point to the White House.

I pointed home.

Because while there are people in Washington fighting to hold the line - - especially among Democrats; our real strength is built locally. And the people who benefit when we feel hopeless, disconnected, or checked out? They’re counting on us to give up.

But if you’re reading this, I know better.

You're not frozen.

​

​

You're not helpless.

​

​

You're needed.

​

That’s why I recently signed up to volunteer again at a local food pantry. It’s something I’ve done over the course of my life, and it brings me real joy; especially when I get to connect with seniors, carry groceries to their cars, offer kind words, and just be present in a moment that might otherwise feel isolating or hard.

I’ve known food insecurity personally. So I know what that kindness can mean.

This work, this showing up….. it’s not only necessary.
It’s healing. It’s connective. It’s joyful.
And it’s how we reclaim the power we’ve been told doesn’t exist.

Too often, women are carrying the emotional, logistical, and community load while also being undercut, disrespected, or dismissed.

This moment demands more of you - not in theory, but in action:

  • Ask the women leaders in your life how you can support them

  • Show up for the unglamorous, unpaid, unnoticed work
    ​
  • Leverage your privilege without centering your ego

Don’t wait to be asked. Make yourself useful.

Take Action Today

  • Volunteer at a local pantry or shelter, even once a month makes a difference

  • Bring extra supplies like tissues, crayons, or snacks to classrooms and shelters
    ​
  • Check in on a neighbor or elder and offer practical help like yardwork or errands
